A name that changed with time
Liqueurs have been part of the Poli family’s work from the beginning. The house recalls an earlier dry plum speciality called Sliwovitz. When that name came to refer to Eastern European distillates in 1938, a different, sweet recipe took its place: Elisir Prugna. The story explains the present name while keeping the two styles distinct.
Plum juice in an infusion
Elisir Prugna is a liqueur made by naturally infusing pure plum juice in alcohol. Its sweetness and construction follow that approach. The producer does not specify a plum cultivar. The historical botanical plate is therefore a way to observe the fruit itself, rather than a claim to identify the exact variety in the recipe.
Plum, almond and biscuit
The producer compares its fragrance to a tray of plums, toasted almonds and amaretto biscuits. Sweetness and roundness surround this fruity, pastry-like register on the palate. Bitter almond is part of its particular signature. The 40% ABV adds warmth to the generous impression, giving another dimension to the plum and almond flavours.
On our menu
We offer a 4 cl measure. Search for plum, almond, amaretti, sweet or indulgent; those more precise terms reveal more about its style than the broad word fruity on its own.
