Have you ever noticed the ribbon tied to our utensils in the pizzeria? Or spotted it in some of the photographs we have shared?

This ribbon (Il Nastro dei Fornaciari in Italian) is more than beautiful: it is a powerful symbol. In Italy’s distant and mysterious past, the Fornaciari (masters of the ovens) were considered guardians of the sacred fire in ovens belonging to certain courts, important families or, sometimes, the village itself.

A mysterious, secret legend tells of one or two burgundy ribbons tied to the Fornaciari’s utensils or ovens to protect them from evil spirits and ensure that every loaf or dish was blessed. This ritual was meant to bring health and joy to everyone who ate the creations that came from the oven.
